Dog Treats
Dogs are just like people. That is, like people, they also have preferences and these preferences vary from dog to dog. These preferences also extend to dog treats. Thus, you have one dog that absolutely adores the taste of one dog food while the other may not even give it a second sniff.
Now, this presents a problem for dog owners. Of course, you want to give your dog the treat that he prefers and not one that you chose. But how do you know that the dog treat that you just bought is something that your dog will like? Is there a way for you to determine what your dog prefers before you invest in a bag of dog treats or came up with a casserole of homemade dog treats?
Unfortunately, there is currently no way for you to find out your dog’s preferences beforehand. We doubt there ever will be a way to find out for sure. The only sure-fire method of figuring out your dog’s preference is to give him the dog treat and see how he likes it.
It’s a difficult task, that’s for sure. Not to mention the expense it would entail. But hey, no one ever said that owning a dog is easy. It is kind of like a hit-and-miss thing with finding out what your dog likes. But once you do hit the right one, it would be smooth-sailing from there.
To make the whole process easier for you, here are some tips to help you choose which dog treats and dog treat recipes are right for your beloved canine friend:
Tip #1: Learn To Recognize The Signs
If your dog has a preference in dog treats, rest assured that he or she will show it. Since there is no other way for you to find out what your pet prefers but to give him one dog treat after another until you get lucky, you might want to try learning how to recognize these signs.
The signs are glaringly obvious. If your dog likes the gourmet dog treat you’ve given him, he will surely show it by wagging his tail and licking his lips as if to say that he wants more. On the other hand, if he doesn’t like it, he will show his disappointment by dropping the treat to the ground, sniffing it, then walking away. Some dogs may even bark as though to get back at you for making the wrong choice.
Don’t take it so hard if your dog doesn’t like what you’ve given him. Instead, take this as a clue that this time you had it wrong and that maybe next time you buy a new treat, it’s something more palatable to your dog’s taste buds.
Tip #2: Different Tastes For Different Dogs
Not all dogs are the same. That’s a mantra every dog owner should know. If you own more than one dog, all the more reason for you to keep this in mind. That’s because if one of your dogs likes one particular dog treat does not necessarily mean that your other dogs will like it. As mentioned earlier, dogs have preferences. Their tastes in dog treats can vary, depending on the dog.
Therefore, if you own more than one dog, be prepared to keep a supply of different kinds of dog treats.
Tip #3: Keep Dog Treats In Airtight Containers
Once you’ve found the right dog treat that your dog likes, the next issue to tackle is how to store them. For many dog owners, keeping the treats in airtight containers seems to work best. Use clear glass or plastic containers. If you have more than one dog, write the name of each dog to the container containing his preferred treat.
