Dogs

Whether you have a new dog, thinking of getting one, or just plain like dogs, there are some important few things you need to know about them.

They are, of course, a member of the canine family of the order Carnivora and bear the scientific name Canis lupus. But let’s not get too dorky here and just take dogs for what they are – lovable and friendly family companions.

Know What You’re In For
First, when you get a new dog, be sure to do it for the right reasons. Don’t get dogs because your kid just had to have it. Let’s be realistic here. Kid’s interests do have the tendency to wane pretty quickly, so when you decide to get him the dog he’s been asking for, do it with the understanding that you are probably going to end up taking care of it at some point.

The dog needs to feed. You’re going to need some dog supplies to take care of its needs. And there are other things, like dog barking which might be bothersome to your neighbors, that you need to consider .

If you think you can handle all that, then go for it. You can start by visiting a pet shop that sells small dogs for sale. If you are new to the world of dog owners, it is advisable to get small dogs instead of a full-grown dog. That way, you and the puppy can have all the time needed to get used to each other and learn each other’s quirks.

Now, this of course brings us right to the next step in dog owning.

Know Your Dog
Dogs are individuals. They are not all the same. Some have different personalities than others. Some are gentle, friendly even towards strangers while others are fiercely protective. Some are quiet while others are fond of making a lot of noise to get your attention.

Often, a dog’s personality can be determined by his particular breed. So if you want to get the right dog, it is best if you start reading up on the breed you are particularly interested in. And don’t just stop on the profile of the breed. Just as important is your dog’s personal history, such as who his father and mother were (since some dogs’ mixed breeding can pose some problem with temper and behavior) and whether or not the pet shop owner has already house-trained him.

Know What To Do
House training is an important part of owning dogs. This only becomes a problem if you have decided to get a puppy which has not been trained yet. However, it does not have to be a complete ordeal. In fact, you can make the task fun and enjoyable not only for you but for your pet as well.

The first thing you need to understand about house training your dog is that they are naturally clean animals. If they can help it, they would much rather not sully themselves with dirt or soil their sleeping and eating areas. Take advantage of these natural tendencies of your dog and you can make house training all that much easier for you.

Next, you want to establish your dog’s living area right from the start. This is for your own good and for your dog’s good, too.

For one, if you are having guests, your dog might get in the way or cause trouble with the strangers in the home. By limiting your dog’s living space, your dog can avoid the usual hustle and bustle of the house and go about his ways without much disturbance.
